The New Democratic Party (NDP; Japanese: 新民主党 Shin Minshutō, Russian: Новая Демократическая Партия Novaya Demokraticheskaya Partiya) is a social democratic political party in Gandoor. They are the oldest operating political party in Gandoor, having been formed from a merger of the Progressive Party (established in 1830 as one of the first political parties in Gandoor) and the Gandoor Democratic Union (established in 1847) in 1878. The party is currently led by Beth Saunders. She was elected as leader of the party following a leadership election which occurred on 15 October 2024, alongside the resignation of Nikolai Olanovich Semenov as party leader.

One of the two major political parties in Gandoor, alongside the Gandoor Communist Party, the New Democratic Party is often considered the perpetual 'second-place party', as they usually are the minority party in the Forum and only four[1] of Gandoor's thirteen Prime Ministers have been members of the New Democratic Party.

The NDP first gained control of the Forum in the 1940 Gandoor National and Forum Election, winning 504 seats to the Communist Party's 496 seats. This would be the only time the NDP would control the Forum until the 1976 election.

Notes

  1. One of the four, Alexei Petrikov, left the NDP in 1942 and established the Revolutionary Socialist Party
