National Kids Time is a weekday afternoon and Saturday morning block of children's programming that currently airs on National Network. National Kids Time debuted on 15 March 2007 as a replacement for the National Sunday-Funday programming block which, as its name implied, aired on Sundays as opposed to Saturdays and weekdays.
The programming block originally aired exclusively on Saturday mornings until an additional block of weekday afternoon airings began in early 2009.
History
Children's Programming on Rajio-Terebi
Rajio-Terebi (as National Network was originally known when it began broadcasting in 1950) aired its first program aimed specifically at children in 1951, Learn with TV (Japanese: テレビで学ぶ, Terebi de Manabu), an educational series intended to alleviate worries about the influences on television in regards to children's educational development. At the time, all children's programming on Rajio-Terebi was produced in-house, as they were the only Japanese-language television channel broadcasting in Gandoor and predated the beginning of television broadcasting in Japan (which began in 1953).
