The Decade House is a historical reality television series that has been broadcast on GBN since 1994. Each programme of the series focuses on a family who must live in accordance with a different decade of Gandoorese history. Originally conceived as a one-off series in 1992, the popularity of the original series, The Decade House - 1890s, resulted in the GBC commissioning a second programme in 1995. The Decade House has ran for nine programmes since its debut in March 1994.

Series Overview

In each programme of the series, a Gandoorese family must live like a family from the respective decade that the programme focuses on. They must dress in accordance with the style at the time, eat food common to the era, only use then-current technologies, among other limitations. Prior to the start of filming, the families are given a one month period of getting used to their new lives, where they will be taught skills common to the period, ween themselves from using modern technology, etc.

The programmes are filmed over a period of three to five months. While the first four programmes focused entirely on home life during their respective decades, starting with the fifth programme, life outside of the home would become a feature of the series, with performers from living-history museums acting as other people that the families would interact with during their historical lives. This enabled families participating in the show to now experience shopping, working, education, and other activities that people experienced in the past.
